The ApiManager Alternative with Sensors and Voice

Direct BLE integration with BroodMinder and BEEP. On-device voice transcription. True Local-Only Mode. HiveSense is the mobile-first alternative to ApiManager for beekeepers who want sensors and voice built in.

Free for up to 15 hives. Works offline. No credit card.

ApiManager is good. Here is where HiveSense goes further.

ApiManager covers an unusual amount of ground for a beekeeping app — iOS, Android, Mac, Windows, and a web version, with a 20-hive free tier and sync that works across all of them. If cross-platform reach is the priority, ApiManager earns its place.

Where it stops short is hardware and voice. There is no direct BLE sensor integration — BroodMinder or BEEP devices need their own app — and no on-device voice transcription for hands-free inspections. Offline mode is reactive (activates when connection drops) rather than offline-first by design.

HiveSense is a focused, mobile-first alternative. Fewer platforms (iOS today, Android soon), no desktop or web — but with the BLE sensor layer, on-device Whisper voice, and a true Local-Only Mode that disables all cloud traffic. If you do most of your beekeeping from a phone in the apiary, the trade-offs favor the mobile-first path.

Frequently asked questions

Why would I switch from ApiManager?

ApiManager has impressive cross-platform reach (iOS, Android, Mac, Windows, web) and a generous 20-hive free tier. If you need to log inspections from a desktop or want a single account across many devices, ApiManager is a strong choice. The reasons to add or switch to HiveSense are: direct BLE sensor integration with BroodMinder and BEEP, on-device voice transcription via Whisper, and a true Local-Only Mode that disables all cloud traffic. If sensor data and voice notes are part of your workflow, those gaps are real.

Is HiveSense really free?

Yes, up to 15 hives — slightly less than ApiManager's 20-hive limit, but with offline mode, voice notes, BLE sensors, queen tracking, and treatment schedules all included on the free tier.

Do you have a desktop or web version?

Not today. HiveSense is mobile-first because the app is designed to be used at the hive, with one hand, in beekeeping gloves. A desktop or web version is on the roadmap but not the priority. If you need to log inspections from a Mac or Windows machine, ApiManager covers that ground better than we do.

Can I import my ApiManager data?

ApiManager supports CSV export. HiveSense does not currently have a one-click importer, but reach out to support@tryhivesense.com and we will help bring structured records over. The two apps use similar inspection schemas so the migration is usually clean.

How does the offline mode compare?

Both apps work offline and sync when reconnected. The architectural difference is small but worth knowing: HiveSense was built offline-first from day one (local SQLite writes happen before anything else), while ApiManager activates offline mode automatically when it detects no connection. Both approaches work; HiveSense additionally has Local-Only Mode that disables all cloud traffic for privacy-conscious users.

What about BLE sensors?

HiveSense reads BroodMinder (T2, TH, W), BEEP, Govee (H5100, H5075), SensorPush (HT.w, HTP.xw), and Inkbird (IBS-TH2, IBS-TH3) directly over Bluetooth. ApiManager does not natively integrate with BLE hive sensors — readings need to come from a separate app like MyBroodMinder.
