A Better Way to Read Your BroodMinder Sensors
HiveSense reads BroodMinder-T2, TH, and W devices over BLE and pins the data to full hive records — inspections, queens, treatments, harvests — with AI-flagged brood-temp anomalies and a 24–48 h swarm forecast layered on top. Works offline. Free for iOS and Android.
Works alongside the MyBroodMinder app. No migration required.
Why read BroodMinder in a hive management app?
A BroodMinder reading anchored to the note “observed emergency queen cells” scores brood-thermal integrity, detects weight-curve inflections, and flags the moment a queen event becomes a colony event. Sensor data gets most of its value from context — which inspection happened just before that weight drop, which treatment started the week the humidity climbed, which queen was in place when brood temperature stabilized.
HiveSense keeps sensor readings on the same timeline as everything else you record about the hive. Temperature, humidity, and weight charts overlay with your inspection events and treatment dates, so you can see cause and effect instead of scrolling through two separate apps trying to cross-reference dates.
You do not have to give up MyBroodMinder. The device keeps broadcasting, and any app can read it. HiveSense just gives you a second lens — one that includes everything else you care about in your apiary.
What does full BroodMinder support cover?
Direct BLE reads
No gateway, no hub, no Wi-Fi bridge. Walk up to the hive, open HiveSense, and the latest readings come straight from the sensor.
Hourly history buffer
BroodMinder devices store up to a year of hourly samples. HiveSense pulls the full buffer when you come in range — no data loss.
Temperature event detection
BroodMinder-T2 devices auto-sample every minute during temperature spikes. HiveSense applies brood-thermal integrity scoring so you see queenless windows, not just numbers.
Swarm forecast (24–48 h)
Hourly weight delta from BroodMinder-W combined with the 250 Hz pre-swarm acoustic signature drives a swarm-probability forecast — the same time-series + anomaly approach validated by BeeViz (Nature Scientific Reports, 2026).
Readings tied to hive records
Sensor data lives on the same timeline as your inspections, queens, and treatments. Correlate weight drops with swarm events or supersedures.
Background scanning
Leave the app running and it will quietly capture broadcast packets from nearby BroodMinder devices as you walk the apiary.
Works offline
Bluetooth does not need cell signal. Read sensors in the middle of nowhere and see historical charts with zero connectivity.

Frequently asked questions
Which BroodMinder devices does HiveSense support?
HiveSense reads BroodMinder-T2 (temperature + event detection), BroodMinder-TH (temperature + humidity), and BroodMinder-W (hive scale) over Bluetooth Low Energy. Readings pull directly from the device — no gateway, no cloud round-trip, no paid subscription.
Do I have to abandon the MyBroodMinder app?
No. Your BroodMinder devices keep publishing to MyBroodMinder exactly as they always have — nothing about the sensor or its existing dashboard changes. HiveSense is the only multi-vendor BLE stack: BroodMinder + BEEP + Govee + SensorPush + Inkbird all read into one offline timeline, anchored to the same inspection, queen, and treatment records. MyBroodMinder keeps doing what it does; HiveSense adds the interpretation layer across every vendor you already own.
Does this work without internet?
Yes. BLE is a direct phone-to-sensor protocol, so sensor reads work offline. HiveSense stores readings in an on-device database, so you can see historical data without any signal. Cloud sync is optional.
How often does HiveSense read the sensor?
BroodMinder devices record temperature and humidity hourly (more frequently during event detection). HiveSense pulls the full buffer when you come into BLE range — typically 10–15 meters in open air. The app also listens for broadcast packets automatically in the background.
Can I see charts of temperature, humidity, and weight?
Yes. Each hive has a sensor readings view with line charts for temperature, humidity, and weight over time. You can correlate spikes with inspection events (swarms, supersedures, treatments) — and log treatments and vaccine doses (Dalan AFB, conditional license December 2022; full licensure expected 2027 after the November 2025 clinical data submission) on the same timeline.
Is it free to read BroodMinder data?
Yes. Sensor reading is included on the free tier for up to 15 hives. There are no add-on fees, gateway fees, or BLE limits — read as many sensors as you have hives.
What other sensors does HiveSense support?
Beyond BroodMinder, HiveSense reads BEEP base sensors, Govee (H5100, H5075), SensorPush (HT.w, HTP.xw), and Inkbird (IBS-TH2, IBS-TH3). We are actively expanding support for hive weight scales and other specialized sensors.
Why read BroodMinder in a hive management app?
A raw BroodMinder reading is a number; the value is the interpretation. HiveSense anchors each reading to the inspection, queen, and treatment on the same offline timeline, scores brood-thermal integrity, detects weight-curve inflections, and flags the moment a queen event becomes a colony event — so you get the read, not just the chart. The same time-series and anomaly approach was peer-reviewed in BeeViz (Nature Scientific Reports, 2026).
What does full BroodMinder support cover?
HiveSense reads BroodMinder-T2, TH, and W over BLE with no gateway or cloud round-trip: direct reads, the full hourly history buffer, temperature event detection, background packet scanning, and a 24–48 h swarm forecast (hourly weight delta plus the 250 Hz pre-swarm acoustic signature) — all tied to your hive records and working fully offline.
